Secretary of State Gale expresses concerns over ballot selfies

Snapping a picture at the polls is legal this election in Nebraska, but Secretary of State John Gale is worried the practice could help open the door to fraud.

"There are still concerns about it in terms of if someone offers a payment for someone to vote in a particular way and for them to prove that that's how they voted they take a picture of their ballot. This is something back in years past happened quite a bit," said Gale.

Gale said there's no evidence that has happened in the past few decades.

He said his worries don’t stop there.

“We're concerned that it can be disruptive for other people. It may be an invasion of their privacy if somehow their ballot or portion of their ballot gets also reflected in the selfie," said Gale.
