Hundreds of truck drivers wait out slick roads at truck stops
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. —
Slick road conditions made travel dangerous on Friday and Saturday in western and central Nebraska, and hundreds of truck drivers decided to wait out the weather.
Lines of semis were seen parked for miles at Bosselman Travel Center just south of Grand Island on Saturday as they waited for conditions to improve.
Those trying to head westbound had no choice but to pull over as Interstate 80 was closed from Grand Island all the way to the Wyoming border for much of the day on Saturday.
Accidents and stranded motorists also added to the danger of traveling on Friday and Saturday, with police departments rescuing more than 100 drivers along I-80 and other highways between Friday and Saturday.
At least one motorist was killed near mile marker 84 on I-80 after his semi crashed into another truck that was stranded in the area.
NTV's Kent Boughton was live in the area with updates at the truck stop - watch in the video above.
