Two Merrick County residents were arrested after the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office said a Tuesday afternoon joy ride resulted in a rollover crash.

Wyatt Boroff, 19, was arrested for child abuse, driving under suspension and willful reckless driving.

Austyn Redmond, 21, was arrested for child abuse and false reporting.

According to the sheriff’s office, a Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound on 15th Road when it lost control due to road conditions and reckless driving. This caused the pick-up to veer left into the center line, cross the roadway and roll on its top before landing in the west ditch.

Five passengers – four adults and an infant child – were in the vehicle. All subjects were transported to Merrick Medical Center in Central City for minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said seatbelts were not in use during the time of the accident. The infant child was restrained by a child restraint device and is OK following the crash.

Authorities had said that alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the crash, but have since said the driver did not drink any alcohol and is not facing any alcohol related charges.
