Van crashes into Grand Island pharmacy

One man has been arrested after smashing into the front of a Grand Island pharmacy early Tuesday morning.

Grand Island police says they attempted to pull over a Dodge van for not having headlights on at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said they followed the vehicle from 5th and White to the Walgreens on 2nd Street where the van crashed into the front doors.

The driver was identified as Mursal Abdi, 27, of Grand Island.

Police said the van was reported stolen.

Abdi was arrested for multiples charges including DUI, flight to avoid arrest , and possession of stolen property.

Employees walked around shattered glass and smashed cases of pop at the he Second Street Walgreens as they assessed the damage.

A stunned employee in her Walgreens shirt parked in the lot as she arrived for work. "What happened?", she said with a look of disbelief, shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Grand Island Police said there is roughly $10,000 in damages and Walgreens will be closed for clean up.
