Judge Clifton Newman issued a clarifying order Friday that certain video evidence from Alex Murdaugh's 2023 double-murder trial remains under seal and cannot be publicly released.
The ruling comes after unredacted copies of crime scene videos containing graphic images were mistakenly released to a film crew producing a Netflix documentary on the Murdaugh murders.
A court official with knowledge of the situation tells News 4 body-worn camera videos from Colleton County Sheriff's Office deputies Daniel Greene and Chad McDowell were not properly labeled as sealed exhibits when inventoried during Murdaugh's trial.
Edited versions of the videos with disturbing images digitally blurred were distributed to the media for public release after being shown during Murdaugh's murder trial. Those versions are not subject to Judge Newman's new order Friday sealing the original unaltered videos.
