OMAHA, Neb. (FOX 42 KPTM) — Friday was the start of the shopping weekend after thanksgiving. It all starts with Black Friday and ends with Cyber Monday.
More consumers are out shopping this year than last year when the pandemic closed the doors of most brick and mortar small businesses.
This year shoppers filled stores in downtown Omaha to enjoy black Friday deals. While shoppers spent today in-stores many were getting ready for cyber Monday.
The Monday after Thanksgiving is considered to be the biggest day for online shopping. This is the day many online retailers promote exclusive online-only deals.
According to Mcafee Antivirus, this is also the time scammers catch many of their victims. Priscilla, a Black Friday Shopper, said she is more alert than before.
“Be wary my credit card is very important and I've had quite a few friends that have already had hacks just this week--- be more aware of putting my information out on website on the internet even on phones when I get those fake emails you’ve got to be really careful especially with the pandemic there are more schemes than normal."
Earlier today the FBI of Omaha tweeted tips for protecting yourself and your wallet against fraud and scams while shopping this holiday shopping season.
The tips include researching the company you’re shopping with, deleting emails from unknown senders, hanging up on robocalls, and paying with credit cards for an added layer of protection.
Whether you are shopping online or in-store be on the lookout for scams or anything that looks questionable.
A final tip for shoppers, check your bank’s guidelines regarding fraud and scam charges.
