Baylor Scheierman hoping to lead Aurora to state title in basketball
The Aurora Huskies are state champs in football, now they are trying to bring some hardware to the hardwood.
With the leadership of senior Baylor Scheierman, who broke a number of state records as a football player, anything is possible.
“One of those guys in football, basketball, baseball, whatever he does, he understands the game so well at a different level than anybody else. Baylor’s a special athlete. I’ve been doing this 33 years and I’ve never had a kid like that,” Coach Tom Leininger said.
Baylor Scheierman of the Aurora Huskies is a true competitor. Already a state champion in football, looking to do the same for the sport he is committed to play in college.
And it was no easy decision to choose basketball over a sport that he has broken numerous nebraska state records for.
“It was pretty tough you know. It’s a big step in my career but at the end of the day the coaches made it really easy for me and the players made it easy for me. I mean it was kind of hard but at the end of the day Basketball is my love and it’s what I always wanted to do," Baylor Scheierman said.
With his college decision made and football in the past now, Scheierman has one end goal to close out his basketball career.
“Just to go out with a bang really. We just have to focus on ourselves and if we do that we’ll be fine," Schiereman said.
“Well I hope he’s going to do the same thing in basketball maybe a little bit better. Obviously he’s committed to play at a D1 program in South Dakota State, and I think they have a really good player in Baylor. “He’s a great leader and a great kid and we’re looking forward to a great season with him," Leininger said.
Aurora is 2-0 so far this season, which includes a win over Wahoo in overtime.
