Nebraska women elated to make NCAA Tournament field

Nebraska head coach Amy Williams shouts instructions to her team.

What a difference a year makes. The inaugural season of the Amy Williams era saw the Huskers win only 8 games including 3 conference victories. 2018 has proven to be one of the most impressive turnarounds in the history of Nebraska athletics. Big Red not only won 21 games they also finished tied for third in the Big Ten while earning a trip to the NCAA tournament.

The Huskers are headed to Austin, Texas where they'll meet 7 seed Arizona State on Saturday at 3:30 pm. It's the first tourney appearance for Big Red since the 2014–15 season. 35 minutes passed before their name was called leaving Husker players and coaches on the edge of their seats.

"When all those brackets were going by and we didn't see our name it was nerve racking," said head coach Amy Williams " But i think when the players saw that it was an immediate joy and very excited and lots of screaming and emotion lots of jumping up and down and some of the players five minutes later were like who do we even play?"

"We were sweating a little bit, some were like should we open that door its getting a little hot in here," said senior guard Emily Wood. "A couple of videos looked like we were giving up hope and we were deep down trusting our name was being called it was a cool moment for our team."
