Hastings College skid hits seven
HASTINGS, Neb. —
The Hastings College softball team could not get its bats going as Doane defeated the Broncos 11-4 in game one and 4-0 in game two on Wednesday night at the Smith Softball Complex.
Hastings was able to take an early lead in game one when Josie Bumgardner led the 2nd inning off with a double down the left field line and would later score on Mikaelah Molifua's sacrifice fly to center.
Unfortunately that lead would not last long as Doane answered with a Nicole Fernandez 2-run home run and then plated two more runs with one on a wild pitch and another on a sacrifice fly.
Doane would grow that lead to 7-1 before the Broncos would answer back with a little run of its own. With the bases loaded and just one out, Alex Schmidt singled up the middle to bring home Makana Kekaulike to make it 7-2.
Molifua would then score on the Alyssa Carter infield single cutting the deficit to four at 7-3 and following a bad throw, Haleigh Cunningham managed to score making it 7-4.
But that would be all the offense the Broncos would muster for the night as Doane would out score Hastings 8-0 for the rest of game one and game two.
Hastings falls to 7-23 (1-5) on the year and will be back in action Thursday April 12 as Mount Marty comes to town with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. at the Smith Softball Complex.
