Back-to-back wins for Tri-City

LINCOLN --- Adam Goodsir scored the go-ahead goal one minute into the third and the Tri-City Storm shot down the Lincoln Stars, 3-1, Friday at the Ice Box. Goodsir, celebrating his 19th birthday, stuffed it in from close quarters for his first preseason point. Josiah Slavin scored an empty-net goal to ice the game in the final minute.

First-year forward Joey Cipollone scored his first preseason goal in the opening frame. Lincoln responded to tie in the middle frame.

Amidst some late-game chaos in front of his crease, Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski stopped 27 shots in victory. He outdueled Tomas Vomacka, who took the loss with 24 stops.

The Storm’s next home preseason game is Sat., Sept. 23 at 7:35 p.m. vs. the Omaha Lancers. Season tickets holders will get free tickets to the game. It is $5 for the public. Any fan that purchases at ticket to the Storm’s home opener on Oct. 13 will receive a free preseason ticket.

Cipollone mashed the opening goal at 8:06 of the first on a rebound at the left post. Ben Almquist shot it off Vomacka’s pads and it squirted to Cipollone. Tri-City’s power play went 0-for-3 in the first period and 0-for-5 overall. The Storm killed off all three Lincoln man-up chances.

Barczewski denied 13 shots in the second period. Lincoln’s Chase McLane evened the game with 6:30 left in the frame.

The Storm’s final home preseason game is Sat., Sept. 23 at 7:35 p.m. against Omaha. Those who purchase a ticket to the home opener receive one free preseason ticket.

Tri-City opens the season on Oct. 6 at Omaha and plays its first home game, presented by Viaero Wireless, on Oct. 13 against Sioux City. The first 2,000 fans in attendance at the home opener will receive a Friday the 13th Jason mask. The first 500 fans will receive $2 off concessions. Friday and Saturday home games begin at 7:35 p.m.
