Kearney Runza make a thrilling start behind home plate
The Kearney legion baseball program establishing a reputation as a team to be reckoned with.
Runza eclipsing the 30–win mark the last two years and 2018 is setting up to be another one for the books.
Kearney not lacking in offensive firepower. They've scored 104 runs through 11 games including a season high 21 against North Platte in the opener.
On the flip side, in their two defeats, Runza putting up their lowest combined run total, with 7 runs in losses to Waverly and Creighton Prep.
Kearney pleased with their progress through the first month, but don't expect them to read too much of their own press clippings.
"You know that's one thing about this crew and the coaching staff we don't get really excited about things," head coach Archer said. "We kind of realize where things are at. We've done a good job resting our pitchers the day after they start."
"We've pitched a lot of kids so a lot of kids are getting experience," Archer continued. "Again when we move to the postseason and those kinds of things where you don't have the re–entry rule and things like that hopefully that pays big dividends for us down the line."
Runza has a busy road trip schedule this weekend playing Lincoln Pius and Millard West on Friday, then Omaha West Side and Millard South Saturday.
