Tri-City Storm reach playoffs despite Saturday loss

The Tri-City Storm clinched a spot in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs despite dropping its last regular season road game of the year 2-0 to the Lincoln Stars on Saturday night, according to a press release from the Storm.

The Storm have two regular season games left before the opening round of this year’s playoffs. The Storm will play a best of three series on the road against a Western Conference opponent yet to be determined. Opening round playoff dates are April 16-19.

The Stars got on the board at 8:31 of the first period as Josiah Slavin netted his 23rd goal of the season. Wyatt Aamodt and Gustaf Westlund recorded assists on the goal. Tri-City and Lincoln each had nine shots on goal in the opening period.

No goals were scored in the second period and the Storm outshot the Stars 15-5. Ashton Calder increased the Stars lead to two goals at the 7:23 mark of the third period. The goal was assisted by Paul Cotter and Wyatt Aamodt and would be the final goal scored in the game. The Stars outshot the Storm 10-8 in the 3rd period. Tri-City registered 32 shots on goal during the game and outshot Lincoln 32-24.

Jake Barczewski stopped 22 of 24 Lincoln shots and recorded the loss in goal for the Storm. Lincoln’s Derek Shaedig registered his first shutout of the season after stopping all 32 shots from Tri-City.

The Storm return to action Friday night in a home matchup against the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
