Big day for Wibbels helps Hastings advance to winner's bracket final
LINCOLN, Neb. —
Sam Wibbels got two hits and three RBI, including the go-ahead two-run single in the fifth inning, to help Hastings win its second game of the state tournament.
The Tigers, 4-2 victors over Wahoo/Bishop Neumann/Lincoln Lutheran, scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take 4-2 lead, which was all Tyson Gatto would need.
The senior starting pitcher went the distance and gave up four hits on the day while repping a 1.14 walks plus hits per innings pitched. The Warriors got both of their runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead as Kasey Ohnoutka had an RBI single to start the scoring.
Wibbels was the star for Hastings, as he had 40 percent of the Hastings hits and knocked in 75 percent of the runs. Connor Laux had the fourth RBI for the Tigers in the fifth to start the rally.
Hastings moves on to the winner's bracket final on Tuesday, 7 p.m. where they face Omaha Roncalli at Haymarket Park.
