Home Federal erases five run deficit to win big
Despite giving up five runs in the first at-bat to Fairbury, Grand Island Home Federal came away with a 15-8 victory at Ryder Park on Friday night.
Home Federal scored six runs in their first at bat to take a 6-5 lead, and they never looked back from there. Grand Island collected 12 hits and took advantage of six Fairbury miscues to score in every inning but the bottom of the fourth.
Shay Schanaman was the leading run producer with his four RBI on the day and Cole Evans was hot on his heels with three more.
Home Federal got 5.0 innings of work on the mound from Brooks Douglass, who also struck out seven Fairbury hitters, but did get tagged for a 2.40 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) because of the first frame.
Grand Island, who is now 3-1 on the season, has three more games this weekend at Ryder Park; two on Saturday and a Home Federal Classic finale on Sunday against Creighton Prep.
