Kearney advances to state for second straight year
Kearney is moving on to the state championship for a second straight season after an impressive 51-37 victory over Lincoln North Star in the A4 district final Monday night.
"It's awesome. Just being here with these guys, going back to state again after last year, it's awesome," senior Kanon Koster said.
"They were a good team, we just had the better game today," said sophomore Seth Stroh. "Kanon had a phenomenal game."
The Bearcats leaned heavily on Koster in the fourth quarter, who was asked time and again to drive to the bucket. He obliged and scored nine points in the quarter, most of which came from the free throw line after being fouled on the drives.
Koster scored a game-high 23 points, keeping pace with his average of 22.7 entering the game.
Kearney entered districts as the No. 4 seed. Both Creighton Prep and Licoln East won ahead of the Bearcats, so Kearney is loked in as the 4-seed and most likely face Bellevue West in the opening round of the Class A state tournament.
