Legendary KHS Boys Track Coach, Roger Mathiesen Resigns
For the last 38 years, Roger Mathiesen has presided over the Kearney High boys track program and turned the Bearcats into a powerhouse. Tonight according to reports from various media outlets, Mathiesen is stepping aside as the head man, leaving a legacy that may never be topped in the state of Nebraska.
The numbers speak for themselves. Under Mathiesen's leadership, Kearney High won 16 Class A state championships, including 11 in a row from 1994–2004. The Bearcats set a national record winning 123 consecutive regular season meets. Kearney High averaged more than 2 individual state champions up until the 2014 season. He was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame the same year.
