Valerie Mia Juarez joined the NTV News/KFXL team in November 2016 as a Bilingual Multi-Media Reporter and Weekend Producer. Valerie is grateful to be at a station that focuses on covering local news for Central Nebraskans. She’s eager to engage and inform viewers of stories happening around the community.

Valerie hails all the way from East Los Angeles, California. Before joining NTV News,

Valerie worked for over a year as an overnight Assignment Editor/News Assistant at ABC 7 Los Angeles. While working there, she was able to help break several stories for the #1 news station in the #2 news market.

Valerie graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from St. John’s University in New York City. Valerie also has a Minor in International Studies that she received while studying abroad in Spain, France, and Italy during her sophomore year of college. Throughout college and high school, Valerie interned at ABC News New York, CNN New York, Eastern Group Publications, CelebSecrets4U, and with the Media Relations Department of The Los Angeles Police Department.

However, Valerie’s journalism journey began when she was only 15 years old and attended an intensive broadcast journalism summer program at Georgetown University. The program reconfirmed her passion for storytelling and motivated her to eventually pursue a career in the field. After that program, Valerie continued attending other journalism programs throughout high school at Fordham University, UCLA and Harvard.

Since 2010, Valerie has been very active with professional journalism organizations such as The National Association of Hispanic Journalists and CCNMA: Latino Journalists of California. She has served on the Board of Directors for both organizations. While in college, Valerie served as the National Student Representative on the NAHJ Board of Directors and has recently served as Secretary for CCNMA’s Board.

As a Mexican-American, Valerie’s culture and family values are a big part of who she is and who she has become.
